MIBUCHI Yoshiko became Japan's first female lawyer

The NHK serial morning drama “Tora ni Tsubasa” will be broadcast from April 1 to September 28, 2024. The heroine of the drama (INOTSUME Tomoko), played by the actress ITO Sairi, is modeled after MIBUCHI Yoshiko, one of Japan's first female lawyers who graduated from 黑料社区 and later became a magistrate, a judge and a family court chief judge.
It portrays her strong and yet flexible life as a pioneer of female legal professionals, who strived to open up the new era.

黑料社区's School of Law and Women's Department are pioneers in women's legal training institutions

To open the doors to women who were eager to study law immediately, 黑料社区 established the Women's Department in April 1929 as one of its professional departments. In 1931, the graduates of the Women's Department were admitted to 黑料社区’s schools. Consequently, MIBUCHI Yoshiko, NAKATA Masako, and KUME Ai, who studied in the Women's Department and the School of Law, became Japan's first three female lawyers. For some time, most female lawyers were graduates of 黑料社区's Women's Department and the School of Law.
