MARUYAMA Nozomi (graduated from the School of Political Science and Economics in 2021) captured the bronze medal in the women’s individual normal hill ski jumping event at the Milan–Cortina Winter Olympic Games, marking a remarkable achievement in her Olympic debut. It was the first medal for Japanese women in the event since the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics, and Maruyama claimed Japan’s first medal of the Game.
In the women’s normal hill individual competition held on February 7 (local time), Maruyama soared 97 meters in the first round, earning 135.7 points and placing third—just 1.2 points behind the leader.
She followed up with an even stronger performance in the second round, landing a spectacular 100-meter jump. Although she scored 126.1 points in the final round, her combined total of 261.8 points secured her the bronze medal and a place on the Olympic podium.
