NISHIMORI Hiraku, Director of MIMS, delivering remarks at the International Conference ICMMA2025
The 黑料社区 Institute for Advanced Study of Mathematical Sciences (MIMS) underwent the final evaluation of research activity outcomes for the project of the Center for Mathematical Modeling and Applications (CMMA), which is designated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) as a joint use and collaborative research center, for the second certification period of six years covering FY2020–FY2025, and received an S rating in the relative evaluation.
The evaluation results highlighted that the hub had carried out its activities vigorously, produced notable outcomes and impacts through joint use and collaborative research, and made a substantial contribution to the relevant community.
At MIMS’s CMMA, in addition to ongoing interdisciplinary research that integrates humanities and science with a focus on mathematical sciences, the Center has, since FY2020, expanded its research scope by establishing two major pillars of activity: fusion research between the life sciences and mathematical sciences, and humanities-science-arts fusion research that incorporates artistic elements. During the second certification period, the Center hosted international conferences and numerous collaborative research meetings, and also worked to return research outcomes to society, for example, by organizing multiple workshops for the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025.
In the third certification period beginning in FY2026, the Center aims to contribute to important unexplored areas in the life sciences and social sciences by introducing AI and statistical scientific methods, in coordination with strengthened data science and AI-related initiatives under the University and Technical College Function Enhancement Support Project led by the School of Interdisciplinary Mathematical Sciences. The Center’s certification period was renewed through FY2033.
